Chattering Analysis and Countermeasure on Machine Tool
Summary
It is important to identify type of chattering vibration on machine tool before working out countermeasures. In general, there are two types of the vibration stated below.
- Type 1: forced chattering vibration
- Type 2: self-induced chattering vibration
In order to confirm the type of chattering vibration, the following 3 measuring data are necessary.
- profile irregularity of worked plane
- vibration of worked plane under operation
- generic vibration characteristics of whole machine tool
Furthermore, the analysis by computer simulation model is indispensable to work out its countermeasures and feed back to development activities for the next generation of machine tool. Development of the chattering simulation model needs both high accuracy FE model reproducing the dynamic characteristics and theoretical formula for self-induced vibration, which is a modelling of cutting part.

2) clarify dominant modes of chattering by modal excitation test
3) develop computer simulation model except cutting part
4) study countermeasures by the computer simulation model
